Quilt Show in Glendale Right Now

My friend Bjo entered her quilts in the Glendale quilt show. I wish I'd gotten out there to see them, but I don't have a vehicle to call my own right now. It poured on Sat. and we worked on Sunday, so there was no way to get to Glendale. I know she was sad that more people she knew didn't come. I believe the show is up for 15 more days though. If you are in the area, pop on over. http://www.glendalequiltguild.org/2012quilt-show.html I'm sure she is in the show program. Just look up Bjo Trimble if you want to see her quilts.

She said it's $9 to get in.

Speaking of quilts, I went to a used bookstore in that little strip mall by Orange County Archery and Prehistoric Pets. I noticed they have quite a lot of books on quilting, embroidery, knitting, and crafts in general. I bought a craft encyclopedia for $10 and a history of Appalachian basketmakers for $6.00. That shot my budget right there, but I could have easily come home with a truckload of books if money was no object. I thought I'd save some for you guys though.

Name Change

When I made the new banner, I decided to change the Guild name. I deleted 'Patchwork' and changed it to 'Printmaking'. Patchwork is sewing after all, and we already had sewing.

Frustrations of Sewing

Happy Autumn. I had to set my quilting project aside to make two Renaissance style peasant shirts for my boyfriend for an SCA event called Great Western War. I don't know when he thought he'd have time to make them but he ran out of time. I think I've never made so many mistakes as I have on this one pattern. I cut the side seam under the serger blade when I lost my grip, I sewed the interfacing to the wrong side of the collar, when I got the underarm seam all sewed up the front of the shirt was 4" shorter than the back. It's a good thing I'm creative because so far I've been able to fix all my blunders. I'm hoping the next shirt takes half the time. And now I have to go re-thread the Serger. My boyfriend just ran out of thread. I told him we needed to make a 'no-sewing after 2 AM rule'. I don't drink but I'm about ready to take it up.

Come Join Me

I hope to start weekly gatherings again soon. A time to relax, work on projects and make new friends. So if you are near Knott's Berry Farm, drop me a note and we'll pick a time and place that works.

Right now I'm making a quilt, knitting a scarf, sewing a peasant shirt and beading a new earring design. I need company! Put on the tea, do some henna, braid each others hair. Let's do it.

First Real Life Meeting

I'm getting ready for our first real life meeting on Aug. 1, 2010 at Mile Square Park in Fountain Valley. Unfortunately I picked that day to work with the archery calendar, but it conflicts with the Stitch and Bitch I usually go to. She changed her date, and then I found out my date was the same one she had picked. How could that happen? Oh well, I invited her to mine, but last I heard she was still sticking to having it at her house.

I've taught some of the archers to knit, so either way, some knitting will be happening.

First Meeting

We will have our first real life meeting on August 1, 2010 at Mile Square Park near the archery range. We are meeting there because the archers and knitters and crocheters and maillers I already know are going to be there too. It takes a village as they say. We'll be starting about 9 AM and going till dusk. Stay all day or stay an hour, whatever suits you. Please RSVP so I can keep an eye out for you.

Next Meeting is in Long Beach CA

On June 19, 2010 at El Dorado Park there is an event that combines World Juggling Day and Knit in Public Day. It's at an archery range. So I'm going to take my hoops, juggling equipment, archery gear and knitting supplies. There is a small fee to drive into the park. I think it's $7.00. Bring something to share at the potluck as there are no food booths. We are on our own. If you do not live near Long Beach, CA you can check the IJA website for other World Juggling Day events near you.
